Solstice Thought

Ki is manifest in our emotions and in our senses. Me must utilize all of them to produce healing in this world, not only healing touch, but also healing sight; speaking healing words and cooking healing tastes, healing music and listening to other’s truths; healing aromas with dirt, ocean, wind, herbs, and fire; and healing spirit with grace and patience. Manifest a world with every daily action by affecting your environment. You were put here to do good work. So get out there and work it! Heal with all your emotions and senses. Show others how to handle their anger and fear, through joy and courage. Invoke diligence and dedication, showing others their worth and witnessing your own; be grateful and appreciative; and throw about your surroundings compassionate kindness with every step and breath you take. Enact, transmute, and be the peace.

Reiki Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I get many inquiries about my secret recipe for Reiki Cookies. Now, no two people can bake the same way with the same tastes, but here is the recipe that I generally follow. Enjoy!

  • 1 cup (2 sticks, 8 ounces, or 230 grams) salted butter, softened
  • 1 1/3 cups (250 grams) dark brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large farm eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Madagascar vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190 grams) all-purpose unbleached flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground Saigon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
  • 3 cups (240 grams) rolled oats
  • 1 10 oz bag of Dark chocolate morsels
  • And lots of Love

Start with an intention to create health and happiness. I normally envision nice ooey and perfectly imperfect cookies coming out of the oven.

In a large bowl, creme together with a fork the butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt together. Combine and stir the mixtures into the larger of the two bowls. Stir in the oats and chocolate morsels.

As you are mixing, visualize your loved ones and all who eat your cookies as smiling and being full of health and happiness. Mix with your known symbols, and you can always beam Reiki over the bowl and/or the baking sheet before you bake.

Chill the dough for a bit in the fridge and then scoop it, or scoop the cookies onto a sheet and then chill the whole tray before baking them. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C) before you scoop the cookies, so that it’s fully heated when you’re ready to put them in.

The cookies should be spaced two inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake them for 11-13 minutes (your baking time will vary, depending on your oven and how cold the cookies were going in), taking them out when golden at the edges but still a little undercooked-looking on top. Let them sit on the hot baking sheet for five minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool.

Enjoy with tea and good company, and you should have enough cookies left over to take over to a neighbor or loved one who could use a pick-me-up.

Reiki Guardians of the Capital Region

We are a group of diligent and dedicated Practitioners who wish to walk our talk by nourishing and nurturing the Capital Region of NY State.

We are a circle of healers, holistic practitioners, social workers, shamans, healthcare staff, caretakers, peacemakers, students and teachers who have realized that we have a duty to our community. We meet every two weeks to discuss Random Acts of Kindness and community service* that benefits the entire Capital Region.

We want to show people that being a practitioner is more than just the act of practicing in a temple or healing room. It is practicing in your every day life, in every situation, in every moment that you are being a force for healing to all Beings. That means the lawyer in line at the cafe, AND the homeless person by the door. That means the hungry stray cat, AND the squirrel in your backyard. That means the young woman at Planned Parenthood, AND the protesters picketing outside. That means the earth you walk and drive on; the air you breathe in and out; the sunlight that keeps us warm and healthy; and the waters you drink and bathe with.

We follow a code of Integrity, Respect, Heroic Courage, Honour, Compassion, Honesty, Sincerity, Duty and Loyalty. We live this sacred credo based on the Gokai Principles. It means that we do not allow toxic anger and fear to control our lives, and it means that loving kindness can remedy all dis-ease. This is what we have dedicated our lives to learning and sharing.

We focus on our true essence and our place in the world, and the Truth is that our true essence is Love, and our place in the world is to shine it in all directions for the good and health of all!

So we vow to help those in need. We vow to visit and hold space for those in their darkest hours. We vow to aid the hungry, dis-eased, and poor of spirit. We vow to be peaceful warriors for our brothers and sisters. We vow to do all of this and more.

So many forget that this was what the original Reiki teachings were all about: focusing on one’s true essence and our place in the world. The truth is that our true essence is Love, and our place in the world is to shine it in all directions for the good and health of all.

Many people are still unsure of what Reiki is, and much less want to take the time to know. Many see it as woo-woo or just a scam, no matter if it has been scientifically proven and is gaining more and more standing with the medical community.

The thing is people don’t have the time, it’s the way they live and the way they love themselves.

Many know they should eat organic, exercise, read, play, speak truthfully, and act kindly; but so many dictate their lives around a schedule, a clock, a fixed “this is the way it is and there’s nothing I can do to fix it.” Many don’t make the time for a massage, much less an hour long Reiki treatment.

They’d rather spend their money on drinks at the bar or the prostitute down the block. They’d rather self medicate with drugs like processed sugars, fast food, cigarettes, marijuana, promiscuous sex, cocaine, and blood diamonds from Africa.  They’d rather “save” money now but pay later at the expense of their health. They’d rather focus on their materialistic lifestyle rather than charity. They’d rather buy the $2000 designer shoes or bag instead of $200 on food from the farmer’s market. And then they go to church or temple or what have you on Sunday to “cleanse” themselves to just do it all again. They do this and wonder why they are still unhappy and unhealthy?

The thing is that They need Love. They need random acts of Kindness. They need to feel Connected.

They need to feel like They Matter.  They need to not feel Alone. They want to be Seen and Heard. They want to be able To Love and Be Loved. They want to be able to not be judged. They want to be able to talk Soul-to-Soul, but their tongues have forgotten how to speak from the heart. They are afraid to confront their Fear and Their Mirrors.

We can help. As practitioners this is Our Work.

A Reiki Guardian aims to be an example of the Seven Virtues of Integrity, Respect, Heroic Courage, Honour, Compassion, Honesty and Sincerity, Duty and Loyalty.

A Reiki Guardian Does No Harm:  She or he does no harm and serves humanity with the objective of cultivating goodness and wholeness.

A Reiki Guardian possess Unconditional Love:  She or he offers care from an infinite field of love and compassion.  They strive to adopt an attitude of unconditional love for clients, other practitioners, and all of life.  Unconditional love describes the ability to love without reservations or agendas.  This type of love rests on a firm foundation of intentionality.

A Reiki Guardian Models Healthy Behaviors:  She or he models healthy behaviors and engage in practices that support wholeness.  They have a responsibility to identify and integrate self care strategies to enhance their own well being and assist others in their efforts to do the same.  Reiki Guardians recognize that self care practices can support and enhance healing capacities for every client.

A Reiki Guardian Forms Quality Relationships:  She or he maintains cooperative relationships with other professionals whether holistic or allopathic. They have a responsibility to nurture each other, and to support other healers to work as a team in the interest of all citizens.  They make referrals to other qualified professionals when appropriate.  They do not make medical diagnoses nor prescribe medications without appropriate training and licensure; neither do they suggest that the client change prescribed treatment or interfere with the treatment of a licensed health care provider. The Reiki Guardian strives to see everyone as a whole person—body, mind, and spirit—and provides care that is culturally appropriate and consistent.  The Reiki Guardian is sensitive to the boundary needs of all people.  They hold in confidence all information, stories, confessions, and personal information given in good faith.

A Reiki Guardian Pursues Wisdom:  And acts wisely. They cultivate awareness and understanding concerning individual consciousness and one’s relationship to Universal Consciousness. They recognize that people may bring lessons to the healer; illness, pain, and the dying process offers learning opportunities for both the dying and the healer.

A Reiki Guardian is Competent:  carries personal responsibility for their own practice and for maintaining continued competence.  They provide services commensurate with their training and perform only those services for which they are qualified.  They pursue continuing professional education and training to maintain and enhance their competence. They have the obligation to determine the efficacy and safety of all healing actions.  Wherever applicable, Reiki Guardians utilize research findings in directing their practice.  They observe all applicable laws, and uphold the dignity and honor of their profession.

A Reiki Guardian has a Responsibility to their Profession, Society, and Environment:  They play a role in determining and implementing desirable standards of holistic practice and education.  They work with others in their field and other fields to guide these healing professions toward holism, and to maintain and monitor high professional standards of care.  Reiki Guardians support holistic research and the development of holistically oriented healing theories.  They participate in establishing and maintaining equitable social and economic working conditions in holistic healing. They along with other humans, have a responsibility for initiating and supporting actions to meet the health and social needs of society.  Above all, they serve humanity with full respect for the dignity, autonomy, and sensitivity of their fellow human beings. They have a responsibility to establish environmental harmony so that planetary healing may take place.  They consider the health of the ecosystem in relation to the need for health, safety, and peace for all citizens.  Reiki Guardians view all of existence as sacred and interconnected and serve with reverence and respect for all.  Healing relationships occur within all of existence and include not only people, but animals, plants, and the local, global, and cosmic environment.

Now, just for today, I understand that not every Reiki Practitioner or healer wants to hold themselves up to such high standards. Or at least not yet. And that is okay, for now.

But if you are interested, but also a bit daunted- know that all of these will not be asked of you Now. These virtues of the Reiki Way take a life time to master. We all make mistakes and fail. It is through failure that we learn.

I expect my students to fail. I expect myself to fail as well. Because it is important to know that we are all human, and we do fail, but we can fail, and fail some more, and fail again better.

I may not expect my students to measure up to all of these, however I do expect my students and fellow Reiki Guardians to embrace their inner Reiki Samurai, their inner Spiritual and Peaceful Warrior. I expect us all to set higher standards for ourselves, and to live with honour.

When you are ready to answer the call, and my guess is that you already have by reading this, then contact me and join your fellow Guardians.

There is much work to be done.

International Day of Peace

Friends, on this International Day of Peace, people all over the world are praying, meditating, chanting, focusing on crystal grids, and marching for change. I only ask that you do something today, however small and/or “weird,” to promote this positivity. Start recycling at home/work. Begin an eco-movement in your soul. Give hugs. Write thank-you letters. Reach out to people who have hurt you in the past and offer them forgiveness. Hold open doors, look people in the eye with a smile, and send out silent blessings to everyone that you encounter. Let’s keep this energy FLOWING and begin today with these and/or other intentions.

Let there be health, and healing, and harmony on all dimensions, in every country, in every time, and in every heart. And so it is.

Expressing Your Happiness Day 20: Radiating Serenity

“We can be serene even in the midst of calamities and, by our serenity, make others more tranquil.”
– Swami Satchidananda

“In our meditation today, we bring our attention to the peaceful and serene influence we can offer the world around us. For our serenity to have a powerful transformative effect on others, it needs to come from our inner being, not just our superficial mood or attitude. We need to be that peace we want to see happen. We need to be serenity, and when we access this peace we naturally radiate serenity.

Peace and serenity are born from a state of inner happiness – our true self. As we live in alignment with our true self we naturally radiate our serenity in the environment . . . we are simultaneously expanding the happiness of ourselves and those around us. Today’s meditation enlivens this state of serenity within our being so that it lovingly influences each person and interaction we have throughout the day.”

Today’s Centering Thought

“I am a calming presence.”

Sanskrit Mantra

“Shanti Vira.” I radiate divine blessings.

“Serenity is a centered gentleness, a trust and inner peace that in many ways is the essence of happiness.  Beyond whatever is happening to you today, when you move with the assurance that all will be well – no matter what – you, in fact,  create the energy that indeed all IS well.  You line up with it.  We’ve all heard the serenity prayer, ‘God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference’.  The powerful and enduring words of this prayer ground us in a knowing that divine wisdom, peace is always within us.  The highest source of serenity is the core of our very Being.  By trusting that presence at our core, we allow a sweet and powerful serenity to flow into our lives and to flow from us.  That trust allows each of us to be a beacon of calm, of love, of generosity.  That I know, My Friends, is a wellspring from which the deepest happiness arises.” ~Oprah

Today’s Notes

Shanti is universal peace, and vira is infinite strength or power. Shanti vira not only brings peace, but it gives you the strength to be peaceful even in circumstances where it might be instinctive to retaliate. It gives you the courage and clarity to be your true self in all situations.

“Jesus was certainly right when he said, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the Sons of God’.  But turning this into a living truth seems very difficult.  The world seeks peace in the midst of violence.  Families seek peace in the midst of arguments and conflicts.  You and I seek inner peace amid our confusion, fear and anger.

I have long been inspired by a wise saying, there is no way to peace.  Peace is the way.  The lesson being taught is invaluable.  It says that if you want peace, be at peace.  We all know what it’s like to walk into a room where people aren’t arguing yet, in the tense silence you feel that there is hostility in the air.  The opposite is also true.  You can walk into a room and feel a peaceful silence.

The presence of inner peace is healing, to you and to the people you meet during your day.  In the Vedic tradition, you can tell that someone is enlightened because all around them there is an atmosphere of peace.  They radiate this quality and the effect on others is powerful.  As the proverb goes, ‘the lion lies down with the lamb.  There is no violence in the presence of true inner peace.

By the meditations you’ve been doing, you’ve dedicated yourself to being the calm, happy, serene presence in any situation. This doesn’t mean that you’re a mute observer who never gets involved, or a saint who never loses her temper.  The presence of peace comes from a deeper place, the undisturbed peace of your Being.

Now, let’s take a moment to consider our centering thought.  I am a calming presence.

Now let’s prepare for our meditation.  Make yourself comfortable and close your eyes.  Become aware of your breath and just breathe, slowly and deeply.  With each breath, allow yourself to become more deeply relaxed.  Gently introduce the manta, Shanti Vira.  This mantra gives you the inner strength and courage to be your highest self wherever you are.  Repeat it silently to yourself. With each repetition, feel your body, mind and spirit open and receive just a little more.  Whenever you find yourself distracted by thoughts, noises or physical sensations, simply return your attention to silently repeating the mantra.  Shanti Vira.  Continue with your meditation for about 10 minutes.  Shanti Vira.  Shanti Vira.  Just mentally.  Shanti Vira.  Shanti Vira.  Release the mantra.  Continue to sit restfully, inhaling and exhaling slowly.  When you feel ready, open your eyes.

As you continue with your day, contemplate the centering thought, I am a calming presence.  I am a calming presence.  I am a calming presence.

My Thoughts & Experience

creative commons sky buddha

Light yet heavy. A little stiff. Hungry.
Busy. Rushed. Ungrounded.
Open. Ready. Practical.

I started off as being very much unready, as you can see above.

However, once I sunk down into meditation. Everything melted away, my pulse steadied. My breathing became more relaxed.

I began to wonder, what would happen if I just got a shadow writer to do all of my posts? Then I would have more time to be a serene saint, looking out the window and exuding this air of silent, peaceful, accomplishment. I would have more time to spend in quiet contemplation of just my own, outside the realm of technology, blog posts, workshoppe marketing, and Facebook status. It would make things so much more… boring…

Sure it would be good to have a break here or there. But, to do it permanently? I don’t think I give away that kind of control. And furthermore, what about my clients? My students? I guess they would know where to find me, my shadow writer could be more of a personal assistant. She/he could arrange everything and all I would have to do is show up, smile, and teach my own serene way of doing things.

Come to think of it, THAT doesn’t sound too bad. I could sit, and lay in the sun as much as I wanted, I could read at my own pace and relax more. I could have more time to just volunteer in the community. Come to think of it, it REALLY doesn’t sound too bad at ALL…

BUT. I am so not there yet. There is still so much I have to do. I would in no way be able to pay this person. At least right away.

And, so I went off on a tangent, as I sometimes do during meditation. But the thing is, I keep getting these visions of myself in the future or some other dimension, teaching, being some sort of workshoppe extraordinaire. I sincerely want to be able to do this work full-time. But. I am not there…yet.

But soon.

Expanding Your Happiness Day 3: Feeling Peace

“Happiness consists not of having, but of being. It is a warm glow of the heart at peace with itself.”  – David O. McKay

Our meditation today will connect us to an aspect of our joy that expresses itself as inner peace. This is not ordinary peace of mind or peaceful interactions with others. This is the permanent feeling of peace that comes from the soul itself, and encompasses all the other varieties of peace within it. The Bible refers to it as “the peace of God which passes all understanding.”

This level of peace is the core of stillness within that gives us steadiness and quiet comfort when circumstances in our life may be confusing, as well as when times are happy and fulfilling. This spiritual peace is our calm center that keeps our life in balance.

Our centering thought for today is:

I am peace.

Our Sanskrit mantra for today is:

“Shanti Hum.” I am peace.

“Today is an exciting day.  This is where you will want to pause and really spend some time. Through today’s meditation we will head towards a new dimension of peace.” ~Oprah

My notes for today:

Peace is an inner state that comes in many forms. Peace of mind. when you arent worried or stressed , you can go inside and relax. A deeper peace is a freedom of anxiety about the future. It makes you feel safe and secure. Even deeper is the peace of self acceptance. You are okay with who you are. Then there is spiritual peace. Is the contended stillness of the soul. The peace that surpasses all understanding. When we access this we move beyond the mere absence of stress, worries, doubt, and insecurity. as valuable as it is to be free of these, we gain even more when we find spiritual peace. First because it contains these other types of peace, your heart and mind is content. Second and even better, spiritual peace cannot be taken away from you. This is the place where unconditional love is found. This is the HOME of happiness that can expand into unbounded bliss. Peace in the soul is the fundamental happiness underlying life, even when outer events are not pleasant or enjoyable. You can survive a great crisis without being shaken because you are at peace. You have given yourself a level of core well-being. It is always there to fall back on in difficult times, but also in times of love and fulfillment.

My Thoughts & Expieriences

Today, I was again swept up in goose-flesh as I contemplated and meditated upon my own innate “peacelihood.” Like yesterday’s inspiration of using “healing crystal technology” instead of saying “crystal healing,” with my sessions; today I was pushed again to imagine myself as a Light Being. Floating, peaceful. An embodiment of peace for the world. I often do this sort of meditation when I am trying to spread peace into the world. I become a Gaia-sort of Light Being like on Fantasia, but more in appearance like an ascended Ancient Oma Desala from Stargate.

Remember, you are peace.

Meditate. Close your eyes and repeat the mantra, “Shanti Hum.”

If you are able, put in some ear buds with your favourite meditative music. Block out the rest of the world. Just for now.

Imagine yourself immersed in blissful peace. With each repetition, know and believe that you are indeed Peace, capital- P. Not just peaceful, not just full of some outer peace, but that you are Peace itself.

How does this feel to you? What experiences do you have when you realise this and your conscious expands to this idea?
