Unlearning White Supremacy 110

This is the second in a series of anti-racism education for anyone who wishes to heal our country, our states, our cities/towns, our neighbourhoods…

This is for those yt people who are working against their fragility. This is for my fellow yt people who wish to #BuildtheBelovedCommunity

In our last session Unlearning White Supremacy 101, we watched videos, and read articles. By now you should have a baseline understanding. Now it’s time to bring that information to others, to share your perspectives, and to enter the conversation with family and friends. In the next session we will work towards then bringing the conversation into our jobs, places of worship, and various other institutions that perpetuate white supremacy, even if they do not recognise it directly.

So my hope with this next list of resources is to get you to the point where you feel comfortable, just enough, to start this work. Yes, there are chances we could lose prestige, our privilege may be degraded, our clout may degenerate; but why? And why should we let those fears hold us back from helping our POC neighbours, friends, and family? They’ve been doing this work since they were born, it’s our turn as white people to feel uncomfortable. It’s our time to own up to the past and present. And it’s time to steep in the nuances, and realities of others less privileged than ourselves.

PREREQUISITES: Unlearning White Supremacy 101. Please begin there, and then work your way through the following.

Please NOTE: Again, this is by far not an exhaustive list. Also, not all of the provided offers a perspective that I agree with 100% but rather reflects the material that I watched and reflected upon in real time, in sequence. For better or worse these were the articles that I was exposed to and that allowed my awareness to broaden. Example: in 2. “The Lie,” after looking at it now, I do not see “All White People are racist,” as a lie. Unfortunately when discussing structural racism, children do not quite yet understand the nuances nor the complexities of racism. Unlearning White Supremacy 101


As Healers we have a responsibility to heal the physical,emotional, mental, and spiritual sufferings of our communities. Through the teaching mirror we can unlearn institutionalized racism within ourselves and society. We can be healers that show up for racial justice and challenge white supremacy wherever we see it.

That includes our healing circles and own lives. That includes when we are in session, working through the energy blockages of our patients. Heart’s work is not meant to be easy. Peace work is not meant to be easy. But this challenge offers us incredible merit and incredible good karma. Let us all make Usui Sensei proud!

Click through this series in order. Sit with each one. Meditate. Educate yourself and reach out. May it help to heal some of your own ingrained prejudices, and give you the strength to continue to do all the healing actions you do! 

Learn mind. Breathe action.

*PLEASE NOTE* This list is by no means exhaustive, and is by no means supposed to be an easy challenge. When we confront our preconceived notions, with whatever subject matter, our energy centers are shifted. With each new insight there is a moment of enlightenment. Dear friends, if you have not by now realised why this phrase is racist and glosses over this issue with new-age rainbow glitter pseudo-morality, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. But, don’t worry, just for today. This is not meant to be an affront to your practice. This is my way of attuning you to this shift of energy that is now finally coming to light and my intention for you is to unlearn the various reasons why this is so. So please, do not get disheartened, but buckle-in for a massive shift in your awareness and consciousness. Yes, these are two different things. ;-p

Scholarships & Grants


Our scholarships are a bit unorthodox…

…they are real and you can get one if you need it. I want people to be able to afford the training they want. I can even give you scholarship to make it even more affordable.  At the same time, I don’t want to be taken advantage of by people who can afford to pay but just don’t want to pay. (I’m not going to penalize everyone for the actions of a few either.)

That being said, if you want to be a Reiki Practitioner, and you truly don’t think you can afford it, think again.  I’ll make it both affordable and fair.  I want to help healers BE healers.  All you need do is be up front and honest with me, and we together will make it happen for you.  I’m building life-long relationships with my students, and that begins with trust and support from both sides.

Scholarships are based BOTH on financial need of the student AND on the desire of the student to be a Reiki Practitioner.  Call me, or come see me or email me, but get in touch with me if you want to be a healer.  I promise you, we’ll make it happen and fast.


  • The scholarship entitles you to a 50-100% discount off the current class price.
  • All you have to do to apply is send us an essay by email on why we should consider you for a scholarship.
  • Your application will remain private – it will not be published.
  • Scholarships are available for both local workshoppe classes and distance-learning eCourses.
  • The fee will need to be paid within a week of your Scholarship acceptance.
  • Applications must be in by 1 week before a scheduled workshoppe class and you will be notified soon thereafter.
  • There is absolutely no shame or judgement in applying for this scholarship.


  • Do I really need the scholarship?
  • Could I just cut back on recreational drugs like marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, and fast food to make up the difference since these things impede my healing ability anyway? You would be surprised how fast these things add up!
  • Could I cut back on my splurging?
  • Do I really need to buy that new (insert materialistic item here)?
  • Can I start carpooling with coworkers for a little while so I wont have to spend so much money on gas?
  • Could I ask someone else to pay for my tuition?

In General, you are expected to pay a reasonable amount toward your tuition and installment payments as determined by your financial situation.  You additionally need to convince me of your intention to pursue a life utilizing the healing practices you will be learning.

In exchange for a total tuition scholarship, you will be expected to volunteer (with proof) your time for community outreach and service for a non-profit, nursing home, hospital, church, garden, animal shelter or other community center.

If for some reason you are denied a scholarship there are other options available to you.

I will still offer training for barter, service trade, and/or installment payments. Many of my students have paid tuition by providing me a massage as they were licensed massaged therapists. Okuden Usui Reiki Level 2 for Intermediates
$100 (20 Hours) TWO 6-hour days, followed by FOUR 2 hrs. Seminars

This class is offered as an ecourse and locally with an interactive online component. Level 2 focuses on mental-emotional healing as you learn how to connect to the heart center. This course expands from an initial 2-day workshoppe, which will give each student hands-on practice and facilitate a better understanding of True Love, and True Suffering. Okuden clears negative emotion and thought patterns, assists with addictions, and heals past lives. It is at this level that the student learns and practices Shodo Calligraphy, distance healing, and Karmic healing via the Power, Harmony, and Distant Healing Symbols. Students will be required to complete 10 hours of unpaid reiki therapy and 5 hours of community service at a local place of worship, garden, park, hospital, homeless shelter, nursing home, or non-profit. In order to receive certification, students will keep a journal documenting a Usui 21-day detox for purification and energetic clarity; and 40-day challenge, over the period of this 10 week course.

PREREQUISITE: Usui Reiki 1 Certification from me or another Reiki Master Teacher. However, an interview tea will need to be completed to see where you and your studies are currently at. You may not be ready for this level, or perhaps will be better suited to a higher level of course study.

A Personal Letter from Me to You

“We all desire to bring joy and healing to others. I doubt very much that you wake up each day hoping to harm another. I doubt very much that you wake up wishing to harm yourself. However, these things still happen. No matter what we wish for ourselves or loved ones, we all at one point or another fall into the arms of predators that would take our grace and transform it into discord. And sometimes beloveds, yes, we are the predators. Everyone has the ability to manipulate, regardless if our intentions are “pure” or “dark.”

From the very moment we were all born into this world, we have been poked and prodded into making materialistic and selfish choices based on what everyone else has been manipulated into wanting. However, at some point we realize what has happened. We realize that we have given away our vital energy over to another, whether it is an outside force or the sabotaging force of the false-ego. If you are reading this letter, let it be known that you have finally come to realize this. Your awareness has been opened with Usui Reiki Ryōhō. You have begun your own hero or hera’s journey within.

You have begun to understand the concept of letting go of things that which no longer serve you, and it is my wish that you continue onward. Ever vigilant. This next phase of your journey, in my opinion, is “where shit gets real.” You’re in for a series of layer removals. You’re in for a series of awareness changers. You’re in for a series of moments of pure enlightenment. You’re in for a series of wondrous, albeit scary transformations. Celebrate these moments Beloved! For all of the life’s many lessons are designed with you in mind.

Only you can live your life. Only you can choose Love over Fear. Only you can do your journey. Only You can do “The Work.” It will be your decision to either stop and close your eyes from time to time, or to keep going despite the hardship. Okuden Reiki is the world’s most large and clearest of mirrors; truly. There will be life-held beliefs that you have held close to your heart that will inevitably be released. Some of the most fundamental, some of your deepest ego’s opinions are about to be challenged. By whom? Well, by yourself, no your Self. Capital-S. By your guides. By your fellow peers. By your family and friends. By the animals that will begin to come into your life filled with wisdom and medicine. By the winds and the very Source of Reiki itself. So buckle up, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride; and by the time this rollercoaster ends I promise that you will be a much different person.

May you find the compassion and joy around every corner to battle your own demons. May you have the courageous vulnerability to ask yourself the hard questions and then respond with the hardest of answers to speak. May you continuously remind yourself of the Unconditional Love that you possess for all of Earth’s children, including yourself. Awaken your heart, awaken your mind, awaken your spirit Beloved. Dig deep, and know that I am really here for you. I know you are there, and it makes me very happy. I know that you are suffering, that is why I am here for you. So please toss your pride aside and ask for help when you need it. Listen deep to my words. You will learn to speak with Love again. You will restore peace within yourself. Through the energy of mindfulness, you shall care for your pain. Lastly allow me to end with an excerpt from True Love: A Practice for Awakening the Heart. There is such wisdom in these words.

“Truly there is no battle between what is deemed good and evil, positive and negative by humanity’s limited understanding. There is only the care given by the big brother to the little brother. We can observe, we can choose to act in a nondualistic fashion, and thus the waste materials of the conscious mind can always be transformed into flowers of compassion, love, and peace. Our consciousness is a living thing, something organic in nature. There are always waste materials and flowers in us. The gardener who is familiar with organic gardening is constantly on the alert to save the waste materials because he knows how to transform them into compost and then transform that compost into flowers and vegetables. So be grateful for your pains, be grateful for suffering – you will need them. We have to learn the art of transforming compost into flowers. The flower is on its way to becoming refuse, but the refuse is also on its way to becoming a flower. There is nothing to throw away. If a person has never suffered, he or she will never be able to know happiness. If a person does not know what hunger is, he or she will never know the joy of eating every day. Thus pain and suffering are a necessary condition of our understanding, of our happiness. So do not say that you do not want to know anything about pain or about suffering, that you only want to know about happiness – that would be an impossible thing. We know well that suffering helps us to understand, that it nurtures our compassion, and that for this reason it is vitally necessary for us. So we must know how to learn from suffering, we must know how to make use of it to gather the energy of compassion, of love, of understanding.”

So now begins your Reiki II Intensive, a second wave of insights that will expand your awareness and allow your old negative patterns of behavior to fall away like leaves. Reiki II is all about emotions, trauma, and deep energy work. We learn to shape and mold our past, present, and futures. Beloved, it is best to now prepare yourself to experience one or several “Dark Nights of the Soul,” otherwise known as “The Belly of the Whale.” There will be moments in all of our lives when we feel like we are at rock-bottom, but do not fear. We need these moments. We need them to grow and to see the error of our ways. I will first explain the meaning of this “Dark Night of the Soul” and follow it with how to deal with it with self-acceptance and compassion. Experiencing these moments also prepares us to help guide our clients as well as our potential students. Furthermore, the more we understand about this realm, the more we will be able to navigate it with albeit tears, but also humbled grace.”

myosotis lake Each student will be attuned to Reiki 2 at the end of the training. The attunement is a process that happens between the Reiki Master/Teacher and the student. As the auras of the two people meld together, the student’s energy channels open and obstructions or blockages start to release. Each time a person receives an attunement, a larger percentage of this density releases. With less obstruction, the light of the Universe flows brighter and more in phase, like a coherent laser beam. Each Reiki Master has their own way of passing attunements, and various methods are valid. I just so happen to attune people at a Buddhist Temple. You needn’t be Buddhist or even religious to participate. All faiths/non-faiths are welcome!

An attunement does not give you anything new; it opens and aligns what is already a part of you. Attunements offer a sacred moment, a memorable crossing from one phase of life to another. It heightens and strengthens your capability to send healing outward into the world to your family, friends, and community. During an attunement, as many different things are experienced as there are initiates. Some see colours, others see pictures, and still others recall past lives. Some are filled with light or a feeling of total peace, wonder or love. Some may perceive more than others do. When asked to place their hands upon someone else to bring the energy through, the new Reiki healer may experience for the first time the Reiki characteristic of heat radiating through their hands.


We will all meet at The Interfaith Center in Albany by 8:30am for the training. There will be a break for lunch around noon, (Please bring your own homemade food, I only ask that it be fresh and organic to help facilitate your attunement process.) Herbal waters, Tea, and Healthy Refreshments will be provided. After lunch we will discuss some more followed by a meditation and attunements. After the attunements, I will give you all some time to talk amongst yourselves, meditate and possibly write/reflect in your journals. Then we will all gather for a field trip to the The Edmond Niles Hyuck Preserve. If you feel more comfortable, you may wish to travel separately.  Once parked, we will embark on a 60-minute (3-mile) mindfulness walk on the Falls & Lake Trail (trailmap). Once at the waterfall we will do a grounding meditation, followed by pictures with me and each other. pridenyAfter the hike I have made reservations at the Palmer House Cafe, which has an incredible 150 years worth of history. The menu consists of organic and local produce from various gardens and farms including that of the Chef Micah Kuhar who creates original dishes featuring his own farm raised meats and vegetables.

Learning Reiki is a wonderful accompaniment to anyone, especially though with working in social work & healthcare field. It reminds us to take care of ourselves as we take care of others, and it also reminds us that everyone no matter who they are is on their own journey. It reminds us that none of us are free from experiencing suffering, and that we should all find compassion in our hearts to accept this. Once again students are asked to develop their personal practice before moving on to the Third Level of Spiritual Healing & Teaching. The Second Degree training prepares the student to practice the healing system of Reiki at a professional level. Doing Reiki Level 2 is more intense than Reiki 1 because it begins the deep descending journey into the human psyche. This is where you venture farther into this life and beyond. Into living the Reiki Way every day, even if you seem to fail. This is where you begin the reclaiming of your personal security, sexuality, esteem, love, truth, wisdom, and connection to all that is. What is Shamanic Reiki?

In their book, Reiki Shamanism, Llyn Roberts and Robert Levy teach that “Reiki comes from the heart, not the head.”

“Although some schools of Reiki prescribe hand positions not to be deviated from, Shamanic Reiki invites you to open your heart and let your intuition guide you. Reiki flows more easily when ego is relaxed, and the same is true for shamanism; and shamanism is founded on the non-hierarchical view that all life, not just human life, has consciousness. As with Reiki, the intelligence that infuses life empowers the shaman to transmute disease and harmonize imbalance. This includes the air we breathe and the winds that cleanse our planet; the waters we drink and that flow over the earth’s body; the fire from the sun that warms us and the fire of stars, volcanoes, deep recesses of the earth; the earth herself and plants, animals, rocks, minerals, and trees, as well as ancestral, human, and other spirits. Reiki practitioners don’t do anything but channel or open access to energy. It’s the Reiki energy that does the work and indigenous shamans will tell you they simply channel or open access to spiritual energies to benefit others. The ability to heal comes from the elements and helping spirits. It’s not the shaman, but their spiritual connection that’s powerful. Shamanic practitioners are intermediaries, accessing the spirit world on behalf of others, themselves, future generations and the earth. We ask spirit to guide us and channel through us so we can accomplish the greatest good. “

People who seek healing know on some level that it is necessary to shift their attitudes, behaviors, relationships and environments. Sometimes these things are easy to do depending on the situation.

Sometimes it can be hard. Oftentimes it is down right nasty. 

But the client knows that it must be done. As a healer, a friend, a lover, a partner, a parent, and sometimes as just being an onlooker, I see this in people everyday. People want to break free from their bondages. Their addictions. Their pain and suffering.

They want to break free, but just don’t know how to push themselves through it. That’s where I come in.

Sometimes too, people just want to progress, they are curious and wonder what else is there underneath the surface. That’s where I come in too.

“As a healer, whether Reiki, shamanic, energetic or other modality, we accept our unique relationship to the greater energies of the universe. We’ll call it spirit but you can call it any name you wish. When opening to this spirit though, we trust our intuition even when we’re intuiting something contradictory to what others, such as our families, teachers, friends, culture, may be telling us. As we open our hearts, our intuition grows and takes us where it will. The spirit world infuses the shaman with the power, wisdom and energy to effect change in this world. We may have important physical teachers in this reality, but our most important relationship is to spirit, and the guidance we’re offered.”

Once you are committed, once we begin to take back our own power we begin to transform. We begin to realize that in order to grow, we have to be actively involved in our own heart & healthcare.

“Although it can be hard  to trust ourselves, trust grows through experience. Through growing trust in spirit, we gain confidence to do the healing work we’re called to do and to live the life we’re meant to live. “

Trust is so important in today’s world where we have been told so many times that we are not good enough, that we don’t deserve this or that,  that we don’t deserve to be treated with dignity. So many of us, since childhood, have been systemically dismembered where our beauty or our talent has been repressed. Where we have been subjugated to abuse and dis-ease, and mistreatment, and neglect so much so that we still carry the scars on our backs.

“Shamans and energy practitioners believe and know that every physical ailment has a corresponding imbalance in the spiritual world. Any kind of pain: physical, emotional, sexual, mental, or environmental first begins in the spiritual realms as a spiritual imbalance. It truly is here therefore where the core of the “stuff,” the heart of the matter first manifests. We who wish to find wholeness need to get through and learn from.  These imbalances restrict our life force, our chi, our energy. They impact everything we do, say, think, and feel and if not addressed can eventually manifest as physical symptoms or dis-ease in our bodies.”

These abuses whether inflicted by others or even by ourselves, can even cause terminal ailments. If you degrade yourself enough, if you malnourish your body, if you break your heart by not following your bliss, if you continue to pollute your environment, if you sully your soul by not listening and turning away from the Universe’s divine song; how long do you think you could last before collapsing?

All change comes from within dear hearts. All that is needed is having the strong intention to do so, you must deeply want it. I can only help those who want it. You have to be more conscious, to make new choices and let go of thoughts, emotions, and actions that don’t help you. The things that do not serve you. It takes commitment. It takes awareness. It takes acknowledging what you’re feeling and actually doing something about it. And it takes time my dear ones. It takes time. It takes forgiveness. It takes having enough self-compassion to look yourself in the mirror, knowing that you are strong enough to get through, and loving yourself for all of your worst.

That is the beginning of Shamanic Reiki. It is true Soul Surgery. It takes guts. And, Beloved, I know you have what it takes.

What Does a Shamanic Reiki Session Look Like?

It looks very much like a typical Reiki Session. However, there are some key differences of style, including that there will come a time where your dialogue is essential.

Here I have given a description of a typical Shamanic Reiki session divided up between two main fields:

The Out Patient Healing & I See You: Intensive Care Unit

After a brief period of quiet meditation together, the client will be asked to lay on the Reiki table and the Reiki session will begin as any regular Usui Reiki session. Then after about a period of 15 minutes, the client will then be whispered to and your Shamanic Journey will begin.

Connecting With An Animal Guide

This is incredibly easy, by simply asking one to appear it will. However, sometimes an animal may not arrive right away. In these cases we can ask a tree, rock, flower, or even the wind to help us along our journey together.

Simple questions to ask these guides are: “Why are you here for me? What lessons do you have to teach? What’s needed in my life right now?”

Cultivating an Inner Sanctum or Sacred Place

Creating a space that is safe and familiar is key to any shamanic or meditative journeying.  After we have found you an Animal Guide we will explore your inner environment for a place that you can return to again and again as a home-base. Oftentimes, clients pick places in nature because within nature is the ultimate retreat from modern society.

Connecting With a Shamanic Reiki Guide

Once we have found your spot and built your Inner Sanctum, we will journey as we did in finding an Animal Guide. This time however, we will seek out an Ascended Being, Ancestor, or Spirit that will act as your inner Healer. Your inner doctor. Your inner Teacher. This can be a deity, a mythological creature, or even someone who has passed in your family. It needed me human in form, but oftentimes they will be. And yes, I mean “they”, because we have many and not just one. Sometimes, this Being will be your Higher Self in disguise. What is so cool about these guides is that they empower you to stay on track after the session is over, without depending on me for everything. On occasion I have answered emergency phone calls, however, it is vital to not rely on me as a crutch, I’m good back up. But I can’t carry you up the mountain.

Locating, Neutralizing, Transmuting, Understanding & Removing (If Needed) Intrusions

Intrusions, also known as entities when they attain their own consciousness, are energies directed at us by malevolent, alien, or unconscious external forces that affect our health and healthy engagement with life.

These can be objects imbedded in us from past life wounds or disassociated emotions, thoughts, and feelings congesting as tangible shapes and forms in spiritual reality. During a healing ceremony, otherwise known as a Reiki session, I work and ask my guides to intercede on your behalf to heal these problems. Once the energetic balance has been restored, healing occurs, and physical symptoms may even disappear and life can resume as “usual.” Or rather your consciousness will have been healed so that you will be able to look at the world with new eyes.

As we gain more spiritual maturity however, we may come to look at intrusions from a different point of view and let go of seeing ourselves as victims.

Wherever they come from, we know that intrusions exist for a reason, and on some level due to us inviting them to be. “Like attracts like, so whatever’s un-healed or within our shadow selves invites forms, energies and experiences of a similar vibration.” And wherever they come from, they are ours to deal with.

Intrusions can be gateways to denied aspects, suppressed emotions, and repressed life force. Energy is neither good nor bad, but part of the greater oneness beyond duality or identity.

In session, we journey together and I have you do a simple visualization, which in effect puts you, the client, in an altered state of consciousness. There I ask you several questions in order to locate these intrusions; neutralize their effects; transmute them into a different form; and learn where, when, how and why this intrusion(s) took hold.

Overall, intrusions are lessons and can be transmuted to allow us to reconnect with aspects of ourselves that we have been cut off from. When we do this, we stop being victims, we stop losing our personal power, and we reclaim our strength and health. When we do this be become an active force in our own healthcare.

At some point(s) in our lives we come up against some serious choices. Specifically, choices related relationships both past, present, and future.

Dark, energetic cords exist and keep us connected to people we once knew, to people we once loved, to people we once hated. To people we envied. To people we pitied. To people who tortured us. To people we tortured. Even to objects or places or expectations that are outside of time and space.

Beautiful cords exist where the relationship is one of peace, and amity, and love, and independence.

Ugly cords exist where the relationship is one of anger, and jealousy, and pain, and co-dependence.

Light cords are often luminous, beautiful and a shade of pure white-gold colour. These cords can be wispy, fluid, and never static. Like notes of music, or waves of light they spiral outward to their destination. They move. They glow. They radiate warmth, love, and peace. These cords make up our energetic system, which includes, of course, the aura. They will appear in strong areas of the body and have roots deep to our core Being, to our Higher Self.

Dark Cords are usually identified as dark, long bundles; the more pervasive ones will have roots penetrating into the body around glands, organs, or some other part. They will appear in weak areas of the body and energetic system including chakras and meridians. Which brings us to blockages.

Release Blocked Energies with Drums, Rattles, Flowers, Stones & Plants

Shamanic tools needn’t be expensive or sacred relics. Shamanic tools are in fact, simple and beautiful by design. They come from the earth. They can be a simple flower on the sidewalk, a stone in your backyard, a stick from the brush, a falling leaf, a feather. They can even be dandelion “weeds”.

With intent you can empower any object. With intent and knowledge any tool can be used to promote health and healing.

Using drums, rattles, or any other instrument in a rhythmic way, “synchronizes our mind and body, and connects us to the earth.” Rhythmic music alters brain wave patterns inducing alpha and theta brain waves triggering higher consciousness facilitating deep relaxation, which allows for deep healing. It cleanses our energy field and harmonizes the flow of chi.

Energy constantly enters, circulates and leaves the human body, and we are giant filters for processing this energetic information that is all around us.

“This energy can include heat and light from the sun; energy created by other people, times, and situations; energy from electronic machines, buildings, telephone wires and others; energy that filters to us from distant stars and that radiates through us from the core of the earth, as well as from the atmosphere and nature all around us. Subconsciously, and even sometimes consciously if you think about it,  we are bombarded by so much everyday “stuff” that it is a wonder we don’t just breakdown. Well, I guess we do don’t we? Eventually we do break down, if we don’t clean our filters. We back up. We get sick. We feel gross. We feel like something is just wrong, wrong, WRONG!

Using my own personal toolkit, I will be able to unblock the energetic system that filters all the noise, noise, NOISE.

Cleansing, Communicating, Empowering, Transmuting & Merging with the Elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water

Ancient cultures all over the world knew that the world was broken up between these four elements, and sometimes even a fifth one: the Fifth Sacred Thing of Ether, Spirit, or Space. Each of these elements is a different aspect of Universal Life Force Energy (Reiki) and comes from the same primordial source.

By communicating and merging with these energies, we connect to the world around us. We become empowered and alive! By realizing that we are not separate, but in fact inseparate from all things, we find harmony and balance. Our lives find harmony and balance. The ecosystem in which we are apart of becomes something to cherish as an extension of ourselves we see it as the indigenous do: as Sacred. We begin to care about our environment and our compassion grows.  The elements can cleanse and release tension in our physical bodies and promote health and proper energy flow.

What’s more, by merging with these primordial energies within ourselves, we begin to realize that we can be as passionate as fire; as stable as the earth; as beautiful as the oceans; as clear sighted as the wind; and as divine as spirit.

That we can be a force of sheer will that is as strong as a tornado, as strong as a tsunami, as strong as a forest fire, as strong as a landslide, and as strong as a supernova. Yet all the while be as gentle as a warm breeze, as gentle as a raindrop, as gentle as sunlight, as gentle as a flower, and as gentle as a soft kiss of appreciation.

*The I. See. You. An Intensive Care Unit Healing*

Each of the following sessions will be in conjunction with one or more of the above techniques depending on the severity of your ailment and dis-ease. However, the following techniques require preparation.

No matter how traumatic the event, compassionate detachment is imperative. 

Your ailment, whatever it may be, can be caused by anything in the rainbow of human experience and as intense as the complete realm of human emotion.

By addressing the root cause of your ailment, not just using pharmaceuticals to treat your symptoms, we can truly get and see the heart of the matter. This segment begins the Intensive Care Unit of Energy Healing.

Remember, “change demands time, effort, and a sincere desire to make things different.” 

Your perception of the traumatic event is paramount in your recovering and growth. It doesn’t matter if it seems “trivial” to someone else, oftentimes it is the little things in life that truly hit us the hardest.

Shifting the Energy of Past Events, Trauma & Dialoguing with the Past Self Session

Have you ever wished you could go back in time to change something you did or erase something you said? And have you ever wished that a past event still affecting you now simply never happened?

Well you can, but not how you may think.

Time doesn’t exist in shamanic realms as we experience it in our reality. We regard time as linear, with any given moment having a fixed place on a time continuum that began as a defined past, advanced to the present, and will propel forward into what we perceive as the future. From a linear paradigm, it’s logical to believe that once something occurs, its place on the time continuum is forever fixed.

We can’t change the past, but we can change how it has affected you.

From a Shamanic point of view, we can travel back and shift the effect this event has had on your energy system. We can alter things happenings so that they no longer cripple us in the present. We have talked about energetic cords and intrusions and now we begin to realize that these things transcend time and space. We have all heard about past life trauma, but little is said about current life trauma. The truth is they affect us equally the same.

“Regardless of when they originated or whether the person the cords were created with is dead or alive, living in the same city or across the world, energetic attachments continue affecting those to whom they’re attached.”

When something traumatic impacts us, we become connected to that moment in time and the emotional reactions it illicited. If untreated and healed, these reactions can be triggered again and again until they are resolved. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is more common than you might think.

When doing this journey, if you or I feel that the event might be too difficult, we can travel back to the time just after the event occurred instead of as it is happening.

By using Shamanic Reiki in this manner, we can then dialog with our past self in the moment, offer our support, and explain that life will go on. That there are things to live for. That you will be happy again.

“The goal is for both past and present selves to observe what happened in the past as an event to move on from, in order to live a healthier present.  Moving on doesn’t minimize the impact of what occurred. Rather, this exercise helps people free whatever part of them is still attached to the past energy. The most important thing that the present self attempts to show the past self is that though terrible, the event was one of many in life and the future will progress for the better.”

You will laugh again, and enjoy life again. You’ll survive this, the world has not ended.

Time Traveling To Prevent Soul Loss Trauma & Integrating the Soul Part with Vital Energy Session

Being human demands that we embrace our vulnerability and experience a full range of emotion and feel whatever we’re feeling in each moment. As we journey to the past, we gain perspective of this. We begin this perspective of how truly beautiful soul experience is and can be. And see how truly beautiful the experience to feel all of it. The shedding of a tear, the loss of a loved one, the sting of a slap across the face, the thrill of running a marathon or giving birth to a baby. We cannot know love if we have not experienced indifference. We cannot experience joy, if we do not understand the depression.

“It is even more difficult to look at personal tragedy engulfing our very existence and learn from it.”

Time traveling to prevent soul loss (trauma) is a beautiful thing. It is a truly moving experience and a dance of the soul. You will not walk away unchanged or within insight.

“We may know the soul as that which infuses us with life and inspires us to achieve beyond self-serving interests, to pause and watch a sunset, to fulfill important obligations even when we’re exhausted, to dance or to paint a picture, to be patient and compassionate with others, to think and act in consonance with who we really are despite others expectations, or to simply leave the house and take a walk. But if we don’t experience it this way, it’s possible that our soul is incomplete.”

Do you feel like something in missing in your life? Do you you feel “incomplete?”

When something traumatic or shocking happens sometimes, a little part of us decides to fly away. It takes fight or flight to a whole new level. It is an innate survival mechanism, and is nothing to be ashamed of nor something to feel like you were not strong enough to persevere. Soul Flight is actually a way that our Higher Selves to protect us from sustaining complete and utter destruction. It protects us from experiencing the full blow of the trauma.

“In cases of Soul Loss, people may appear vacant, emotionally repressed, chronically depressed, or even extremely imbalanced. All can reflect disassociated soul parts, or a jumbled or incomplete soul puzzle picture. Some people are just more vulnerable to soul splintering than others. When our essence self does suffer fragmentation, we live in dis-harmony and dis-ease, regardless of the state of our physical health.”

And this is okay.

Now, I am not yet trained in actual Soul Retrieval, however through the use of Time Traveling we can go back to the moment of the trauma and convince the Soul Fragment to not leave in the first place. We can cajole it. We can love it. We can flatter and coax it still even if it does want to leave. We can work to even allow it a little vacation to where else? Your Inner Sanctum.

The harder and more painful the traumatic event, the harder it will be to do this, but it is well worth the effort on your path towards wholeness.

“Preventing one’s own essential qualities from leaving can be challenging, but is extremely empowering.”

And this is just the first part, just the first step towards harmony. Next comes actually integrating that part that has long since been away into your present life.

Just a note however, on an absolute level, the spiritual plane, the soul part or vital energy was never really lost. But despite this, if the integration isn’t done, the fact that this part was missing all these years will feel very pronounced. We must then accept this part of ourselves back home, and nurture it, and ask it how it wants to be loved.

Journeying to Past Lives in the Time Corridor, Circle of Earth, and River of Time Session

Again, linear time does not exist in Shamanic reality. Past life trauma impacts us just as much as events in our current lifetime.

So many people are interested in Past Life Regressions, but the truth is that these journeys are very powerful and require preparation.

“Wounds and disassociations from trauma not resolved in a person’s past life can be held in present day body, emotion and psyche, as well as in a person’s energetic and cellular memory.”

Past Life Regressions shake up our psyches. They make us question our current life, our current morals, and our current grasp on reality as we know it.

It is a very hard thing to stomach the realization that sometimes we are not always the victims but the torturers. Even still it is a hard thing to stomach the guilt of having done shameful things in past lives. Things that can’t be spoken of. However, like I said before, we cannot know love with experiencing indifference. We cannot know joy without experiencing horrors.

Resolving Past Life stuff is often the only way to crack unhealthy life patterns and dis-ease that is stubborn to shift and whose root cause eludes us in previous mentioned exercises.

Sometimes we have to go to the Deepest Dark of our Souls to find the Light.

By journeying through the Time Corridor, Circle of Earth, and River of Time the wisdom we gain, the power we reclaim, and the vital energy restored shifts our consciousness of this lifetime. It brings us that much closer to enlightenment, that much closer to harmony, that much closer to wholeness. That much closer to complete health.

“We can unlock the chains of what’s holding us back and in doing so not only remove its link to the current lifetime, but also to future ones.”

Things to Know Before the Shamanic Reiki Session:

  1. The healing begins the moment when the client first schedules the session. You’ve set intentions, which activates subtle yet unsubtle healing forces within spiritual reality. Which causes shifts in “ordinary” reality. Synchronicities and cleansings can manifest in the client’s daily life. Until the actual meeting, pay attention to dreams.
  2. Write them down, and also write down any new insights into why you scheduled the appointment in the first place. Get yourself a notepad or something that can be used as a journal.
  3. Pay attention to unexpected events and honour whatever emotions bubble up. Beautiful and magical and strange things can occur and clients should take notice, for all are spirit’s nudges. Remember, nothing is coincidence, and everything happens for a reason.
  4. Eat healthily and drinking a lot of clean pure water detoxifies physical impurities, maximizing the healing benefits for the body. It is wise to begin a physical detox of sorts low in red meat, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol at least a day prior to your session.
  5. En-route to visiting my space, or waiting for me to show up to your place, there is a “portal of opportunity.” Whether walking, driving, flying, or taking a cab/train the more consciously engaged you are as a client, the better. Open your heart to what you really seek in life and what you hope to gain from the session. This opportunity can be missed through distraction so please try to stay grounded, but aware and open, when traveling.
  6. Turn off the radio/phone/laptop, relax, appreciate the scenery and notice what you see and feel. Feel, and stay centered despite what’s happening around you, and open to the unexpected. Spirit often catches our attention through unexpected events, but it is up to us to recognize the event as a message. If you are at home, this will be a good time to explain to your roommates, children, partner, etc. that you will be having a session that day and will need their help to facilitate this “portal of opportunity.” Gentle reminders work best.
  7. Shower, take a sacred bath, or simply wash your face and hands.
  8. Dress in comfortable clothing. (Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. So dress smart, but comfy.)
  9. Create sacred space: However feels right to you but the easiest way is to clean an area from clutter and arrange simply items with intent and purpose. If you unsure, we will be able to work together once I arrive.
  10. Prepare a light snack of wholesome whole foods, tea and fresh chilled water for after the session. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are best. Waters can be chilled with a slice of lemon or other fruit that has been slightly macerated and left in a pitcher in the fridge. Herbal tea is also good to have on hand.
  11. Make sure you again explain to your house guests/friends/family that you will need to be left alone for the duration of your session.
  12. Silence your cellphones and land-lines.
  13. Ensure animals are kept in an area where they won’t be able to disturb you unless they are familiar with a mediation practice, in which case they may choose to join you.
  14. Payment is negotiable. Typically I charge $1 minute, however, bartering in form of a favour-for-a-favour, a trade-for-a-trade is acceptable. Donations to cover gas is also appropriate if I am traveling to you. If you are volunteering for a FREE session you won’t have to worry about this. Payments can be made via Paypal, or with cash at your discretion prior to us beginning.
  15. Shamanic Reiki has no time limit. Typical Reiki Practitioners prefer the staple of 1-hour treatments, however, in a Shamanic healing, time has no importance. We get through what we get through in the time we spend together. However, a typical Shamanic Reiki session can last from 1-2 hours with an additional hour for grounding and discussion.
After your Shamanic Reiki session:
  1. Eat and drink plenty of water for the next few days. Often Reiki manifests with similar symptoms associated with detox, and plenty of water is important to flush away those toxins.
  2. Sleep and or rest to the best of your ability. 8+ hours a night is recommended.
  3. Record and document any odd or exhilarating dreams. These are also detox-like symptoms.
  4. Follow-up & share your impressions of the session.
  5. Plan for your next appointment.
  6. Consider giving a testimonial.
Questions after your Shamanic Reiki session:
1. Were there any problems or questions during the session?
2. What were your experiences during the session?
3. What did you feel after the session?
4. Did the Reiki healing help you with your complaint?
5. Any other observations?

Skeptics and Naysayers

The following is a published journal from the UCLA.

For years Reiki, along with other methods of holistic therapies were looked upon with disdain, even contempt from medical associations, practitioners, mainstream scientists and clerics. The idea that the human body was permeated or surrounded by an
invisible, etheric body of “life force energy” was considered to be no less than nonsense. These negative conclusions were formulated on the premise that “life energy” fields such as those accepted in China as Chi or qi, in Japan as ki and in India as prana , were “unseen” and “immeasurable” by traditional research or scientific instrumentation.

But now all that is changing.

Reiki Passes Tests with Flying Colors

There have been many other controlled studies submitted to peer-journals and to The Touchstone Process for review. Ailments and disorders that tested favorably to Reiki treatment include:

1. Post operative pain after tooth extraction
2. Cognition in elderly, related to dementia/Alzheimers
3. Pre-operative relaxation and post-op pain
4. Pain in chronically ill patients
5. Depression and stress
6. Well-being in Reiki practitioners

As of 2009, The Touchstone Process has evaluated 25 test studies that appeared in peer-review journals evaluating the merits of Reiki Treatments. Taking into consideration only the most rigorously controlled studies, the team reported that 83% showed moderate to strong evidence in support of Reiki as a viable, therapeutic healing modality. Only one study proved solidly negative and that was for the treatment of fibromyalgia-associated pain levels. As is the case with conventional drug treatments, not all therapies prove to be effective.

Reiki Case Studies

The most recent data analyzed (during 2008-9) shows strong evidence that Reiki is indeed responsible for a positive biological response in both humans and animals. The strongest evidence (rated “excellent” in the Process) was reported in the most carefully controlled of  all experiments; non other than laboratory rats. In both 2006 and 2008 stressed-out lab rats received Reiki treatments and they all showed significantly reduced stress, anxiety and depression responses. “Sham” or bogus Reiki treatments were given to the placebo group and they showed no reduction in stress, anxiety or depression. Testing in humans performed between 1993 and 2006 showed ratings from Satisfactory to Excellent, all suggesting that the benefit of Reiki treatments were positive in controlling pain levels in humans. There were some “confounding variables”, which is typical in hospital (as opposed to laboratory) studies; however, the placebo Reiki treatments in this experiment were by contrast ineffective in controlling pain.

Vital Signs

New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Campus conducted one of the first studies ever performed to determine the effectiveness of Reiki treatments on the autonomic nervous system. This “blind, random study” included a Reiki treatment group, a “sham” treatment group and a “control” group. The testing began with all participants at “baseline” autonomic nervous systems levels. The results within the Reiki treatment group showed a lowering of these levels including heart rate, respiration and blood pressure. These positive results led the team to recommend further, larger studies to look at the biological effects of Reiki treatment.
It’s interesting to note that Columbia/Presbyterian was one of the first hospitals to offer Reiki as part of their Integrative Medicine Program (CIMP). The now famous cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Mehmet Oz brought tremendous attention to Reiki when he invited Reiki practitioners to treat patients during open heart surgeries and heart transplant operations. Dr. Oz is often quoted as saying, “Reiki has become a sought-after healing art among patients and mainstream medical professionals.”

Meditating doesn’t always have to be about NOT THINKING. It is actually about being mindful, and BREATHING.

People can be mindful by simply slowing down, taking a moment, and perhaps even repeating a self-mantra or affirmation.

af·fir·ma·tion (noun) A word or string of words that you declare positively and repeat as a mantra when you need a little extra spark.  The important part though is that you hold it to be TRUE. That when you say them out loud to yourself, you believe in them, they resonate with you, and make you feel happier, lighter, and more glorious; more relaxed; and more vibrant. Affirmations can be created or even edited and change them to suit your own views. Because after all,

to affirm something to yourself is the sincerest form of Self-Love.

Now, of course during meditation, things may pop in your head. Don’t get frustrated, or angry. Because everyone sometimes just wants to cover their ears and scream, but the key with this is the awareness of these emotions and asking why you truly feel them that allows these boggy energies to lift and float away. Don’t get me wrong though, we need these feelings too. They are not “good” nor “bad” feelings. They are all a beautiful and necessary rainbow that makes us living, breathing, and feeling people. So, if you need to scream, scream. If you need to cry, sweet ones, cry. But remember there is a light in you that is able to shine through any ordeal with poise, respect, and self-love.

So with that being said, anyone can meditate. You needn’t be a monk, nor particularly spiritual at all. Meditating has several health benefits, which help to affect the mind, body and soul holistically.

Typically, a guided meditation is done inside doors, unless you would like a walking meditation at a park or a hiking meditation at a local preserve. But, like I have said so many times before, you can meditate anywhere with enough mindfulness. Whether it is on the bus, or at the airport. On a lunch break, or walking to your next class, all it takes is a little imagination, and breath.

Also, here are a couple of recorded meditations with the Albany Peace Project; that I have done in recent years. Feel free to use any of them as you wish.


Affirmation: “The world speaks with many tongues. I choose to speak with the language of Light.”

PREPARE with some supplies:

  1. Tell any roommate(s) or family members that you will need to be left alone (for about 30 min.- 1 hr.)
  2. Ask politely for their respect and for their silence. (Perhaps they could go out for a walk or something.)
  3. Grab a favourite soothing scent (i.e. incense, essential oil, or perfume. I suggest a nice Lavender blend.)
  4. A candle, the size doesn’t matter (a cute and simple tea-light will do just fine)
  5. Make ice and chill some water in the fridge (You will need this after the meditation)
  6. Fresh vegetables and/or fruit to pair with the chilled water (This is to ground & centre you)
  7. Think temperature. Is it hot or cold? (use air conditioning/fans or blankets as needed)
  8. Make a meditation playlist or grab a CD of soothing music. (Loreena McKennit, Putumayo Present, Dave Stringer & Spring Groove are GREAT!)
  9. And finally, turn off any alarms or cellphones and retreat into your own inner silence…

Sit or lay down on your back however you feel comfortable. Light the candle and incense, and breathe in your perfume or essential oil. Turn on the music, and let’s get ready to rock and roll! Literally!

Let’s begin in a Yogi position and cross our legs. Adjust yourself as necessary. Be sure to reposition your bottom and your sits bones so you don’t feel uncomfortable and also so you can properly align with your backbone. Close your eyes…and BREATHE. Breathe in…breathe out…breathe in… breathe out. Create a repetition. Do one in, one out. Or, one in, hold, and breathe out. Try counting to a certain degree. Breathe in, one-two-three-four. Hold, one-two-three-four. Breathe out, one-two-three-four.

If thoughts permeate your brain, acknowledge those worries, and then let them drift away. This is our time. Your time. You are allowed to take this time for yourself. You deserve it. You can worry later, but right now, this is sacred. This is your sacred time for You.

Mmm, doesn’t that feel nice? Pay attention to your breath. Breathe deeply down into your belly, fill those lungs, relish in the fact that YOU ARE ALIVE. You are here. YOU. ARE. BREATHING.

Feel any tensions release. Feel all the stress leave your body as you exhale. With every inhale, feel the life-force, the Mana energy that is all around us, building up in you, feeding you, sustaining you. Giving you the courage. The strength. The power. After a while you may begin to feel that you are reaching a max of energy, you may be tingling, you may feel light and clean and free. Once you find this place, know you are safe. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. You are filled with light, warm radiating light. Your face, your arms, your hands, your feet. Your eyes, your toes, your lips, your ears. All shine with the grace of pure true unconditional love for yourself. Down, down you go through the earth. Down, down you travel with each breathe. Allow yourself to go deeper, and deeper still into your being. Allow yourself to accept yourself as you are now, able to make choices from a place of personal power, a place of wisdom, a place where all of life is born and reborn. Now, where are you right now? Let’s go on an adventure. To a place within you where you can always return. It is a place of your own design. Do you find yourself in a field? Near a river? A pond, a pool? Look at your surroundings, this is your true home, this is your sacred place.  Take a few minutes to journey around, explore, relax, sit, and meditate even farther. Ever deeper. You are now in Trance time. The world of noise and pollution has been left behind.  Yours is a land of plenty. Of fresh greens, of beauty. Look to the horizon. What do you see? Remember it. Learn from it. What does it say to you? Take some time to listen…and LEARN from this new world.

After a while, and take your time doing so, go for a walk. Find me there with you. Where am I? Am I in a red tent on a hill? Near a river bank pondering the fish? Am I, I? What face or mask am I wearing? What gender am I? When you find me. Allow me to take your hand. My hand feels warm yet refreshingly cold at the same time. My form at first may be transparent, but with time I will become more clear. As I take your hand I start to lead you to a bridge. This bridge connects are two lands together. And you may find that the bridge changes with every visit you may make in the future. For all things in life are malleable, changeable and it is simply the way things are meant to be. In my  land, there are trees. Tall Ancient Pines. Hemlock, Ferns, and Moss. Mushrooms and Rivers laden with Willow. Sunflowers, and Roses, and Queen Anne’s Lace. For this is my Sanctuary. We walk past Brothers Deer, Otter, and Butterfly. Sisters Fox, Bear, and Heron. Grandmother’s Lilac, Sage, and Cedar. Grandfather’s Rosemary, Lavender, and Lemongrass . Children’s laughter and song. Hares jumping and eating clover. Ancestor stone circles, and Holy Ones playing cards. After seeing all of this, I lead you to a grotto. Apple Trees in various stages of maturity. Some full of floral blossoms, some with ripe delicious apples, and some even barren. Bees buzz nearby. Their melody seems to dance on the winds. Mmm, lap up the sound with your mind’s tongue. How does it taste? Does it have a colour? It has a music of its own, separate from the Bees. This nectar is alive. It is electric and it fills you with Magick as we walk and venture further towards the hive. Do not worry, for this is a land where all beings live cooperatively. Where both man and beast can converse and aide each other. The Bees are our teachers for today. When we reach the hive, they sense we are there, and actually they knew we were coming. I ask them if they can offer you some wisdom, and they agree joyfully  bringing drops of honey and let them slide onto my tongue. But I must leave you now and will wait back at the grotto under the Apple Blossoms. Do not fear I will only be a short distance away. Sometimes knowledge is meant for only one person and one person only. Sit with them for a while and meditate. Ask them a question, ask from deep within your heart. When you are ready, speak to them in your own way for they speak the language of Light. They hum around you and say “TASTE…LEARN…LISTEN…” Stick out your tongue and take in their knowledge. When you are finished give them thanks and return to me. Take as long as you need. But do not ask too many questions, for bees are very busy, and have much to accomplish in a day.

Once you have finished with the bees and have thanked them, you find me hanging with my legs from an Apple branch smiling cheerfully. I jump down and take your hand again, and with the other part the branches and you see the bridge we crossed over. I take you back and now it is time for you to return. Return to your own land and to take what you learned with you.  What did you learn?  Will you listen to the wisdom of the bees? Go back to your sacred place and venture as long as you wish. Ponder the Bee’s song. And know you can always return to my land again for any sort of guidance.

Eventually sit down again and begin to breathe. Inhale. Exhale. Up and up you go, back into regular reality. Fill yourself with Mana. Let it carry you up through yourself. Up through it all. Whisper your goodbyes, and then open your eyes.

Remember what you learned from this journey. Remember where you were. Remember your sacred place. What will you bring back with you? How can you incorporate the wisdom you learned while there in this reality? Do something every day that brings you closer to the world you wish to live in.

I urge you to journal after any meditation because sometimes symbols and messages don’t always get spoken. Sometimes they happen out of the corner of your eye. The Deep Self within us speaks in a different language unto itself. And sometimes takes a while to translate. So write every detail down. You may be surprised to find out the answers later.


Spiritual benefits of meditation

For millennia, meditation has been an exclusively spiritual practice for serious seekers. By quieting the mind and deeply relaxing the body, the meditator experiences deep states of inner peace, and ultimately, higher states of awareness. There are many subtle benefits of practicing meditation—greater intuition, compassion, awareness, focus, among others—but they are ancillary. Ultimately, meditation is the practice of mystics seeking union with [the divine.]

Physical and health benefits of meditation

As meditation has become more well-known in the West, scientists have begun to quantify its physical benefits in hundreds of studies.

Significant benefits have been found for many health conditions, including heart disease, cholesterol, high blood pressure, insomnia, chronic pain, cancer, and immunity. Because meditation is a low-cost intervention with no side-effects, it shows promise for relief of a wide range of societal and health problems.

  • In a study of health insurance statistics, meditators had 87% fewer hospitalizations for heart disease, 55% fewer for benign and malignant tumors, and 30% fewer for infectious diseases. The meditators had more than 50% fewer doctor visits than did non-meditators.(1)
  • Meditation lowers blood pressure to levels comparable to prescription drugs for those who are normal to moderately hypertensive.(2)
  • Meditation increases circulation in beginning meditators by 30%, and in experienced meditators by as much as 65%.(3)
  • Meditation has endorsed by the NIH as effective for the relief of chronic pain. Chronic pain sufferers experience a reduction in symptoms of 50% or more.(4)
  • 75% of long-term insomniacs who have been trained in relaxation, meditation, and simple lifestyle changes can fall asleep within 20 minutes of going to bed.(5)
  • Meditation reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics.(6)
  • A group of inner-city residents suffering from chronic pain, anxiety, depression, diabetes and hypertension were trained in meditation. They experienced a 50% reduction in overall psychiatric symptoms, a 70% decrease in anxiety, and a 44% reduction in medical symptoms.(7)

Mental and productivity benefits of meditation

Research on meditation has shown significant improvements in mental health, memory, concentration, and productivity.

  • Brain scans show that meditation shifts activity in the prefrontal cortex (behind the forehead) from the right hemisphere to the left. People who have a negative disposition tend to be right-prefrontal oriented; left-prefrontals have more enthusiasms, more interests, relax more, and tend to be happier.(8)
  • Researchers tested novice meditators on a button-pressing task requiring speed and concentration. Performance was greater at 40 minutes of meditation than after a 40-minute nap.(9)
  • Meditation helps chronically depressed patients, reducing their relapse rate by half.(10)
  • Meditators notice more, but react more calmly than non-meditators to emotionally arousing stimuli.(11)
  • Those with smoking, alcohol, and eating addictions who have been trained in meditation break their addictions with significantly lower relapse rates than those receiving standard therapies.(12)
  • Middle school children who practice meditation show improved work habits, attendance, and GPA.(13)
  • Brain scans of meditators show increased thickness in regions of the cortex associated with higher functions like memory and decision making.(14)
  • Meditation appears to slow aging. Those meditating five years or more were 12 years younger than their chronological age.(15)

That amazing ability we all possess, yet so seldom listen to with any thread of truth.

We tend to rationalize, everything, in our society. Growing up means giving up our childish enthusiasms, trading our colourful wardrobes for starch-pressed suites and dresses. Where “appropriate” mores and rules are “perfect, shrewd, and life-less.”

If you have found this post, and the words above have resonated with you, I ask you to truly begin your journey with listening to your intuition where true happiness lives.

We cannot allow ourselves to further perpetuate the “appropriate adult world” for intuition lives in the land of innocence of childhood.

If you were someone who was forced to grow up quick, taking care of your family instead of the other way around, your inner child may be starving for attention. If you fortunate to have a fruitful childhood filled with adventure and the land of “make-believe” then you will more familiar with this sort of thing, you simply may have just forgotten about how to get there.

Don’t worry.

Things happen.

We grow. We change. We evolve.

But in which direction is up to you. The realm of intuition is not linear, as Deepak Chopra says, “intuition is contextual, relational, and holistic. It is an attribute of our soul and does not have a win-lose orientation.” Which was just where our hearts and minds were as children before the “real-world” affronted us with cold, harsh, cynicism, and disbelief.

Ever since we were children we have been taught that we do not have the answers. But we do.

We possess the answers to the universe’s biggest questions. And if we listen, if we listen to our intuition, we will be able to learn from ourselves: the source of untold wisdom and insight.

And how might we do this? How can we tap into this Intuitive world, this inner knowing more easily?

There are several ways.

  1. We must remember our innocence. We must remember the naive spiral dance of youth. Where we received and shared nurture. When we were completely in touch with our bodies and we believed in ourselves and in everything. Every weird, crazy, and fantastical possibility. What were some of your favourite activities as a child?
  2. We must let go and accept our fears. There is beauty all around us and there is beauty in life’s natural processes. We all have fears. Fear of how we may be perceived. Fear about what will happen. What might have been. We must grieve when we are afraid if need be. And above all cannot rush or deny all of the feelings associated with our fear. Once we accept these fears, we can then release them because we will come to realize that they no longer serve our lives, nor our minds, nor our hearts. What are you most afraid of?
  3. We must listen for inspiration from the quietest sound of all: our own inner voice. This is our intuition after all. It speaks to us in different ways, but it always is speaking either with words, images, or emotive feelings. Do this by taking time everyday, even if it is only for five minutes, to sit with your intuition. Sit in silence. Slowdown. Go for a walk. And be open to its advice. We may not always like what we hear, but we must learn again to trust ourselves. When you do this, what do you hear?
  4. We must connect to our wildness. Wildness is essential to intuition because intuition comes from a place of no inhibition. It is raw, the place we derive our instincts, sensuality, and passion. From this wildness comes a new belief in ourselves. Where we can face our fears, embrace our sexuality, and reconnect with our bodies. By bridging our wildness with our reason, our left and right hemispheres of the brain, we discover the vesica piscis, where intuition is born. Truest truth can be better understand and believed when it is both linear and holistic at the same time. Why not try to connect to your wildness in the greatest wildness of all: the wilderness of nature?
  5. We must dance our dance and express ourselves fully and openly.  When we embrace our deepest inner truths we will be able to see truth, hear truth, and experience truth. If you must dance alone, go ahead, but still get up and dance! With this passionate expression of Self, we will be able to unlock those hidden talents within us, which connects us to our intuitive abilities. The ways in which Source speaks to us is through our innate talents and gifts. Everyone has talent and gifts. Let go of self-doubt. Let your talents shine! If you don’t think you do as an adult, what were some things you were very good at as a child?
  6. We must combine our opposites to open our third-eye. A key to living a happy life filled with a connection to your intuition depends upon your ability to not only accept your fears, but all of the diverse personalities and quirks that make up who you are. This means both the light, goody-goody things about you; and the dark, not too goody-goody things. Your whole life is a work of art, but things only get worse when there is a failure  to come to terms with difficult nitty-grittiness. Embrace all that you are. What are some things you have done lately that you don’t particularly like?
  7. We must listen to our intuitions when then come calling. Intuition comes and goes, but when it comes we would do well to listen to it and follow its instruction. Remember that whole trusting your Self thing? We must because intuition unheeded only makes us more angry and sorrowful. True intuition comes from a place of pride, not from a sense of guilt.  Is there something your intuition has been trying to tell you lately, but you havn’t been listening?
  8. We must find an outlet. Finding an outlet for our intuition helps to allow it flow more frequently and freely. Whether its writing your impressions down in a journal, painting, writing a song, or using a divination tool such as tarot, or runes these will allow you to put some structure to sometimes the “unstructured” nature of our intuition.
  9. We must have fun and live from a place of love. Having fun with our intuition only strengthens it. This does not mean we are always right, but it creates an environment that nurtures our intuitive expression as well as our own Self expression. Having fun connects us with our inner child, our sexuality, our creativity, and our bodies. When we can have fun, and even poke fun at ourselves, we can taste the richness of our inner fruitfulness, our inner Oracle. Fun feeds connection and fun feeds love, the Source of our intuition, from our hearts. When we live from a place of joyful love, we connect to our highest health and our intuitive abilities seem to only flourish and grow exponentially. What can you do, today, to have more fun? What can you do, today, to share your love with others? What can you do, today, to love your Self?

So, what is intuition?

What does it mean to be intuitive? 

Intuition can be defined in so many different ways, but universally to be intuitive means that you have this uncanny ability to just know what is right for you.

Some people like to shy away from the “psychic” label. I myself prefer “intuitive.”

Abilities range like I said above. Some people are Mental Intuitives. Thinkers. More logical people who need proof to believe, who are less connected to their hearts or feelings, yet seek to understand. These people tend to be clairvoyant, which means “clear-vision” or clairaudient (clear-hearing). People like this tend to be blessed with precogition (knowing/seeing past events), premonition (knowing/seeing future events), and the perception of present events happening in real-time. They may be visions, or flashes while awake doing nothing at all, in meditation or asleep in your dreams.  These people may also be have the ability to read auras or energy fields. Those who are clairaudient, tend to do well with automatic writing, which helps to bring sense to the voices or songs that may come from Spirit Guides.

Some people are Emotional Intuitives. Empaths. More emotional people who do not need proof to believe all the time, who are more connected to their hearts and feelings. These people tend to be claircognizant (clear-knowing), clairsentient (clear-touching/feeling), and are typically healers drawn to the healthcare field. (Nurses, Doctors, CNAs, DSPs, Massage Therapists, Energy workers or Reiki Practitioners.) People who are clairsentient, may be adapt at Psychometry, which is the ability to use touch to gain information about an object being held.

To have holistic intuition is to embrace both kinds: Mental and Emotional, and giving equal importance and training in all four “clairs.”

There has been heavy misinformation out there that intuitive people are either insane schizophrenics, or are special saint-like people.

Everyone has an intuitive ability, and everyone experiences it one time or another. Sometimes it is that gut-feeling in the pit of your stomach, or your hair standing on end and a feeling like something is wrong. Sometimes it is goose-flesh when you hear or see something that resonates with your inner spirit, or when something just feels “right.”

Sometimes though, things get blocked, for whatever reason. It could be an energy imbalance, toxins or pollutions that have negatively affected your abilities. It could be fatigue, stress, and ill-ness which can be seen as a manifestation of a block. Philosophy aside there are ways to unblock yourself, which were described above.

Other “quick-fixers” are simple.

  1. Tender Loving Care. We all need some R&R from time to time. Recharge your Self. Treat your Self. Indulge in your Self. Take frequent naps. Get plenty of sleep.  I am a HUGE fan of siestas. Take a mini vacation or go all the way. The choice is yours, but either way afterwards you will be right as rain. Just be sure to return to “normal” life slowly. Don’t go in guns blazing when you get back, because this is just counter productive. Getting out in nature, gifting yourself a massage, or simply running yourself a bath does wonders!
  2. Nutrition and Mild-Exercise.  Eating a healthy diet well balanced with whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as healthy fats and proteins will give you a much needed boost. You are after all what you eat. So eat to your health and drink to your health. Detoxifing your body and behavior will get you back on track. Drinking plenty of fresh filtered water will do your system wonders!
