New Advanced Okuden UREI 220 Classes Begin This Fall

UREI 220 Advanced Okuden: Usui Reiki Inner & Outer Teachings
Donzoko: The Depths

COURSE DESCRIPTION
$ZERO (100 Hours) FIFTY 2.0 hrs. Seminars
Cost of class is free, however students will need to purchase associated class materials unless a need be greater. Students are encouraged to make a donation to any local community organisation such as Black Lives Matter, Citizen Action NY, the Albany Social Justice Center, Albany Free School, Grafton Peace Pagoda; or Densho, a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving, educating, and sharing the story of World War II-era incarceration of Japanese Americans in order to deepen understandings of American history and inspire action for equity.

This class is offered as an ecourse and locally with an interactive online component. Advanced Level focuses on drinking the tea in order to heal self and others. Self-cultivation of the Gokai needs practical application in everyday life not only for us as practitioners but in a way that impacts our neighborhoods and communities. This course expands approximately 11 months, which will give each student hands-on practice and facilitate a better understanding of traditional Usui Reiki philosophy and cultural context. It is here where students are introduced to Chinese Magical Medicine, epidemonology, Buddho-Taoist exorcism, Tendai buddhist concepts of omnipresence and emptiness through the lens of chado ‘the way of tea;’ the hard truths we must embrace as individuals and society. Students will dive deeper into the influences of Taoism, various esoteric Buddhist practices, Shintoism, martial arts, and Chan Zen on Usui Reiki’s roots while confronting racism in America in a way that communicates compassion.  Students will be required to complete 10 hours of unpaid reiki therapy and 10 hours of community service at a local place of worship, garden, park, hospital, homeless shelter, nursing home, or non-profit. In order to receive certification, students will keep a journal documenting a Usui 21-day detox for purification and energetic clarity; and 19-day challenge, over the period of this 50-week course.

UPDATED 7/4/17: UREI 210 Okuden Syllabus

Unlearning White Supremacy 110

This is the second in a series of anti-racism education for anyone who wishes to heal our country, our states, our cities/towns, our neighbourhoods…

This is for those yt people who are working against their fragility. This is for my fellow yt people who wish to #BuildtheBelovedCommunity

In our last session Unlearning White Supremacy 101, we watched videos, and read articles. By now you should have a baseline understanding. Now it’s time to bring that information to others, to share your perspectives, and to enter the conversation with family and friends. In the next session we will work towards then bringing the conversation into our jobs, places of worship, and various other institutions that perpetuate white supremacy, even if they do not recognise it directly.

So my hope with this next list of resources is to get you to the point where you feel comfortable, just enough, to start this work. Yes, there are chances we could lose prestige, our privilege may be degraded, our clout may degenerate; but why? And why should we let those fears hold us back from helping our POC neighbours, friends, and family? They’ve been doing this work since they were born, it’s our turn as white people to feel uncomfortable. It’s our time to own up to the past and present. And it’s time to steep in the nuances, and realities of others less privileged than ourselves.

PREREQUISITES: Unlearning White Supremacy 101. Please begin there, and then work your way through the following.

Please NOTE: Again, this is by far not an exhaustive list. Also, not all of the provided offers a perspective that I agree with 100% but rather reflects the material that I watched and reflected upon in real time, in sequence. For better or worse these were the articles that I was exposed to and that allowed my awareness to broaden. Example: in 2. “The Lie,” after looking at it now, I do not see “All White People are racist,” as a lie. Unfortunately when discussing structural racism, children do not quite yet understand the nuances nor the complexities of racism. However, the rest of the video showcasing various other stereotypes is beautiful and encouraging.

HEALING TYRANNY

America’s Cry for Help

“…WE SEE THIS ROTATING DOOR OF PEOPLE SEEKING SILENCE, RELIEF, AND CATHARSIS. WE ALSO SEE THEIR NEEDS JUST BY WALKING AROUND. AS HEALERS WE NEEDN’T WAIT ANY LONGER FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS…IN THIS DAY AND AGE, THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE AFRAID, DEPRESSED, OR HEARTBROKEN. NOW IS NO TIME AS A HEALER TO HIDE…”

These be dark times healers.

Whatever your political affiliation, I am sure you can see the rampant surge of hate crimes and acts of violence filling the news.  The Trump cabinet is filling with representatives who have made it very clear their position on the environment, social sciences, education, and the health sector: all areas where many healers live, breathe, and work.  I have pondered this long and hard and see that we healers have been for a long time very wrong. For weeks now I have meditated upon the meaning of this election, is it doom or is there a silver lining? What lessons are there to find, embrace, and talk with?

As healers, let’s face it, we often are very superficial. We rarely get to the meat of an issue for several reasons. Perhaps the client does not want to dive too deep. Or they begin to and then cancel their next session, and we all know what happens after that: they never come back. Retention in any field is difficult, and when ours is a profession of the deep stuff, when our job is to be the mirror for people so that they may heal and not merely place a Band-Aid on the situation. It can get very annoying after a while. And yet, we see this rotating door of people seeking silence, relief, and catharsis. We also see their needs just by walking around. As healers we needn’t wait any longer for people to make appointments, especially when you learn the techniques of Gyoshi Ho and Koki Ho.  In this day and age, there are so many people out there who are afraid, depressed, or heartbroken. Now is no time as a healer to hide in our healing rooms.

Now is the time to act, and utilize the Gokai of Kindness in our everyday lives. There is no time like the time of tyranny for a healer to hear the call of humanity. There are so many marginalized people who are taken advantage of, who have for centuries been oppressed, beaten, and manipulated. As healers, our job is to heal on a holistic field, and if we ourselves are not staying aware, if we ourselves are not being mindful of these issues; our clients and our higher selves are doomed. If we fail now, we fail so much more than just ourselves. All the lifetimes of karma that have gotten us to this moment, this life where we have taken the role of healers, and now what do we do with it? Hide, keep our heads in the sand and “let go and let god?” No. That in my opinion is the ultimate abuse of privilege. Our duty is to grow, to help others “sit with their yuck.” To transmute, and transform situations. To mold and yes manipulate energies for the betterment of not only a few, but for all sentient beings. The world is crying- this is no time to wall oneself off. It is a time to be the one to break down Byoki boundaries, not create new ones.

Peace and healing are not static energies, they are a force, so it our prerogative to share that peace, and be that peace we wish to see in the world. We are the healers, and leaders of our communities. They look to us for support, guidance, and strength. I believe firmly that now is no time to play or think small. The mighty oak cannot forever remain a sapling. So use your skills and power. Be the healer I know you to be! With tact, with diligence, and of course with compassion.  We are the defenders and protectors of old, and no tyrant or bigot will harm our friends and family.

Heiwa beloveds.

Unlearning White Supremacy 101

white-people

As Healers we have a responsibility to heal the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual sufferings of our communities. Through the teaching mirror we can unlearn institutionalized racism within ourselves and society. We can be healers that show up for racial justice and challenge white supremacy wherever we see it.

That includes our healing circles and own lives. That includes when we are in session, working through the energy blockages of our patients. Heart’s work is not meant to be easy. Peace work is not meant to be easy. But this challenge offers us incredible merit and incredible good karma. Let us all make Usui Sensei proud!

Click through this series in order. Sit with each one. Meditate. Educate yourself and reach out. May it help to heal some of your own ingrained prejudices, and give you the strength to continue to do all the healing actions you do!

Learn mind. Breathe action.

*PLEASE NOTE* This list is by no means exhaustive, and is by no means supposed to be an easy challenge. When we confront our preconceived notions, with whatever subject matter, our energy centers are shifted. With each new insight there is a moment of enlightenment. With consistent practice and consistent diligence of looking into the teaching mirrors, we build up an attunement to these new phases of reality and levels of awareness. The world is shifting, and we healers are particularly sensitive to these shifts, but dear ones, please take heart. And please take courage. Just for today, your fears and anger that may arise in reading some of these materials is the natural consequence of living within a realm of ignorance. Energy work and healing again is not an easy process, and any healer or teacher who says otherwise, obviously has not done the work, and has not seen the connections that these things have upon our energetic fields, emotional-mental bodies, and spirits.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: That the reason I have written this is that deep within my bones, I was disheartened and disappointed by MANY of my so-called “spiritual,” friends and mentors jump on the “All Lives Matter” bandwagon. Dear friends, if you have not by now realised why this phrase is racist and glosses over this issue with new-age rainbow glitter pseudo-morality, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. But, don’t worry, just for today. This is not meant to be an affront to your practice. This is my way of attuning you to this shift of energy that is now finally coming to light and my intention for you is to unlearn the various reasons why this is so. So please, do not get disheartened, but buckle-in for a massive shift in your awareness and consciousness. Yes, these are two different things. ;-p
