“We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.” —The Talmud
Today in our meditation we will explore the mirror of relationship. This is the idea that all of our relationships are a reflection of ourselves. The people we are attracted to are those who have traits that we have, only more so. We enjoy their company because we subconsciously feel that being with them will help us to cultivate and manifest those traits even more in our own lives. In the same way, we are repelled by people who reflect back to us traits that that are difficult to face in our own selves.
The mirror of relationship is a valuable tool that we can use to see ourselves more clearly and to expand our awareness. As we become willing to embrace the light and shadow that we all possess, we bring love and healing to ourselves and our relationships.
Our centering thought for today is:
“The world is my mirror.”
Our Sanskrit mantra for today is:
“Om Bhavam Namah.” I am absolute existence. I am a field of all possibilities.
Pay attention to the lessons that you can learn from others today. Observe your reactions to the many people who cross your path. When you can see that everyone in the world is simply sharing your own consciousness, you will lose the need to judge others and open to greater understanding and love. With each encounter you have, observe carefully and repeat these words silently to yourself, “In you I see me, in me I see you.” Feel the compassion in your heart open and witness how the way you see the world begins to change. — Deepak & Oprah
Reflection. There are lessons reflected in each person in our lives about ourselves.
We are all mirrors for others. Do you see me in you? I see you in me.
Today, Deepak explained that what we see isn’t always love, compassion, and light. But we can envision what is possible to reach where and what we want. In order to transform that which no longer serves us we must embrace both light and dark of who we are. Because we cannot grow by neglecting or abandoning and accepting that there is darkness, but it does not always have to be scary.
“The good you find in others is in you too. the faults you find in others are your faults as well. After all to recognize something you must know the beauty you see around you is your beauty. See the best in others, and you will be your best. Give to others, and you give to yourself. Appreciate beauty and you will be beautiful. Admire creativity, and you will be creative. Love, and you will be loved. Seek to understand, and you will be understood. Listen, and your voice will be heard.” —Unknown
This quote today moved me in a way that speak so deeply to my core. This is what I have always believed and is at the heart of my practice and life’s philosophy. All that is life is a mirror. It shows us who we are. We can let go of who we were yesterday and begin to be the person we know we can be. All of the people, all of the news and happenings reflect who we are as a species. The good and the bad. Likewise, our personal and more private relationships, reflect who we are. The good and the bad. We are a multi-faceted species that is learning, every day. We are learning that we truly are all connected, not just by social media and history, but anatomically, molecularly, spiritually. We are all connected. Our energy intertwines with the energy of the earth, sea, and sky. Our love is contagious. We simply need to be mirrors ourselves and reflect that light simultaneously inward and outward. We need to allow ourselves this so that we may heal, so that we may love, so that we may create the world we truly love and deserve.
In you I see me, in me I see you. Namaste.
