Exile update: Being away, disconnected from online profiles and friends hasn’t been as hard as I thought it would be.
Which makes me think of going just a bit further. Just that extra mile for Earth Week (April 21st-28th).
Can I really still call it an exiling when I am still using my phone to Google search every little thing, and using Pandora?
It’s time to go deep.
I’m talking, complete cellular and electronic silence. No phone, no radio, no internet.
This is going to be a challenge.
But I know that I have the willpower to do it. And why? Because every time I unplug, there is this silent grace that falls on me, where everything around me seems to take its place. The birdsong becomes my Pandora. Letters and mail become my phone. Celestial bodies become my maps. And books, sweet dear books, become my internet.
Unplugging takes you places you may not have checked out before: parks, libraries, book stores. That cafe around the block that you’ve just been dying to swing by on poetry night.
The world around us has an immense repository of knowledge just waiting to be tapped into.
Affirmation: “I go deep within myself in silence. I find my inner peace reflected in the community around me. I will be a mirror as it is of me.”
What will you do for Earth Week, Earth Day…Earth year?
